The Family cord blood bank “Hemafund” actively collaborates with Ukrainian and foreign private and state medical centres in a frame of the All-Ukrainian program of cord blood use. “Hemafund” is a coordinator of this program. The program is carried out by the Scientific and Practical Medical Centre of Children’s Cardiology and Cardiosurgery of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, a state institution “Romodanov Institute of Neurosurgery of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”, the family cord blood bank “Hemafund”, Kiev maternity hospital №5, Kiev maternity hospital №7. The Clinic of reproductive medicine “Victoria” was a consultant of an educational program in questions of cytogenetic diagnostics in congenital anomalies. In the nearest time, the state institution “Institute of Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine” is expected to join the All-Ukrainian program of cord blood use. Running of this program at the high quality level has become possible due to close collaboration of the company “Hemafund” and Kyiv City State Administration of Health Protection that initiated expansion of this program and drawing into it of specialists of Kyiv medical organizations of the respective profile.
The Program has two directions. The major aim is search and expansion of the list of domestic medical institutions, in which methods of treatment with cord blood use will be applied. The second direction of the Program work includes organisation of series of educational events for medical institution specialists in all regions of Ukraine. Such educational seminars will provide specialists with necessary information in diagnostics of pathologies requiring cord blood use directly from professionals.
Due to join work of the Scientific and Practical Medical Centre of Children’s Cardiology and Cardiosurgery of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Family cord blood bank “Hemafund” and Kiev maternity hospital №5, an unique method of cord blood use during operative intervention on the heart of newborns was worked out and implemented by specialists of the Scientific and Practical Medical Centre of Children’s Cardiology and Cardiosurgery of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine under the leadership of Ukrainian cardiosurgeon Ilja Nikolaevich Emets. In April 2010, the state institution “Romodanov Institute of Neurosurgery of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine” has become a participant of the project of cord blood use. Specialists of the Institute under leadership of Orlov Yu. A. have implemented a method of cord blood use in operative interventions in children with prenatally diagnosed congenital anomalies of nervous system development (spina bifida). Cord blood use for treating of youngest patients has proved high quality of “Hemafund”’s method of processing and cryostorage. We hope that due to this method, the list of pathologies of the Neurosurgery Institute which are treated with use of cord blood processed and stored by “Hemafund” will extend.
At the end of April 2010, Kiev maternity hospital №7 has joined the program.
In the future, we plan extension of the list of medical institutions which use the cord blood stored and processed by “Hemafund”.
“Hemafund” will provide all organizational key points and fully cover costs of works on cord blood processing in the frame of the All-Ukrainian program of cord blood application.
